What an endless marathon it is being a developer: keeping yourself updated consistently with the edge of technology on one hand, and fitting yourself into vacancies where the required skills vary across a ridiculously wide range.
Employers published an ad for a Frontend Developer, but need them to know:
– AWS
– Kubernetes
– SQL
– APIs
That’s not a Frontend Developer—that’s a Full-Stack Wizard!
Hiring a Backend Developer, but want them to work with:
– React
– Vue
– Angular
Oops! That’s not a Backend Developer—that’s another Full-Stack Magician!
And if you expect a Full-Stack Developer to:
– Design like Picasso
– Build backend like an engineer
– Deploy like a DevOps guru
Congrats! You’re actually looking for an entire software engineering crew, from product owner to the bottom!
I wish they understood how exhausting and demanding it is to be proficient in every single one of those skills. Expecting that level of expertise across such a broad range is like asking for a space shuttle that surfs into the water—sure, it might be possible to build, but it’d take way too much cost and effort! Let’s stop playing “Guess the Real Job Role” and start writing realistic job descriptions!
